www.artistopia.com New piano cd's available as of April,2008 George and Ira Gershwin's classic,"Strike Up The Band", is interpreted on solo piano. Gershwin wrote this piece in 1927 for the Broadway show,"Strike Up The Band". In 1936 Gershwin dedicated this song to UCLA. In the late 1930's after the death of George Gershwin, his brother Ira gifted UCLA the rights to this wonderful music. It became one of the University's official anthems. As an alumnus of UCLA School of Music Jim was unaware of this fact until jazz historian and friend Floyd Levin was recalling his days as an undergraduate and being present at the ceremony. Nonetheless, this is one of the wonderful Gershwin songs that has made its way into the jazz library of America.
